7 Items for a Move-Mountains Prayer, along with Bible Verses

Many of us are familiar with the Bible verses that talk about moving mountains:

“You don’t have enough faith,” Jesus told them. “I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.” Matthew 17:20-21

“I tell you the truth, you can say to this mountain, ‘May you be lifted up and thrown into the sea,’ and it will happen. But you must really believe it will happen and have no doubt in your heart.” Mark 11:2

Now you may be wondering:

“What are the prayers that can move mountains?”
“How do you pray a mountain-moving prayer?”
“How can I pray with a faith that can move mountains?”
“What does prayers can move mountains mean?”

Mountains and Prayer

Mountains are those circumstances in our lives that appear to be completely impossible – those difficult situations that just don’t seem to have any way of working out.

Oftentimes we, as believers in Christ, don’t fully step into the power that we have access to. But when we do pray in faith, Jesus said that everything is possible (see Mark 9:23).

It can be easy to get into the habit of praying the same way – maybe we say the same prayer every night. There’s nothing wrong with saying a memorized prayer now and then, but God’s desire is for us to have an intimate relationship with Him.

Think of the people you are closest to. You probably talk to them often, and you most likely talk to them about many different things. You tell them about what is going on in your life. We can have this same kind of relationship with God.

Sometimes we may not know what to say, but the Holy Spirit is always there helping us, interceding on our behalf with groanings too deep for words (see Romans 8:26).

We can also get into the rut of praying comfortable, small, safe prayers instead of the big, step-out-of-our-comfort-zone prayers that we should be praying. We are talking to the Ruler of The Universe, after all, so why not go big?

Calling on God’s Name

Many verses in the book of Psalms talk about calling upon the name of the Lord. So what does that really mean?

It doesn’t just mean praying to God, it means to call out / cry out to Him. When we are children of God and we know that we can go to our Father for help, calling out to Him comes naturally.

God always hears our prayers and always answers them. There is never a time he isn’t available (isn’t it so nice that we don’t have to leave a voicemail or send a text?!), and there is no delay whatsoever in Him hearing our prayers.

He cares about the details of our lives so much that he even knows how many hairs are on our head (see Luke 12:7)!

Let’s take a look at the 7 Items for a Move-Mountains Prayer (or we could call them “Mountain” Prayer Points). There is also a Mountain-Moving Prayer for you to pray and some Prayer Moves Mountains Quotes. 🙂

7 Items for a Move-Mountains Prayer

  1. HAVE FAITH

Faith is the foundation that everything else is built upon, and our wholehearted faith needs to be in God and God alone. Through our faith, we achieve the victory of defeating this evil world.

Scripture says that our lives are a matter of faith – not sight. It is impossible to please God without faith, and it is by openly declaring our faith that we are saved.

Jesus is the author and perfecter of our faith, and the only thing that counts is faith showing itself through love.

Scripture goes on to say that faith must be accompanied by good deeds. If it doesn’t produce good deeds, it’s dead and useless.

We must believe that when we speak to the “mountains” we are facing, they will be moved, the mountains being those huge barriers in our lives that seem impossible to conquer.

Jesus said if we have faith even as small as a mustard seed, nothing will be impossible. Isn’t that incredibly encouraging?!

Here is another illustration Jesus used: “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a mustard seed planted in a field. It is the smallest of all seeds, but it becomes the largest of garden plants; it grows into a tree, and birds come and make nests in its branches.” Matthew 13:31-32

A mustard seed is very small, but when it’s planted, it grows and becomes the largest of all garden plants. Perhaps this means that our faith may start small, but then it can go on to permeate every aspect of our lives, therefore growing to be the most influential thing.

But when you ask Him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind. James 1:6

And it is impossible to please God without faith. Anyone who wants to come to Him must believe that God exists and that He rewards those who sincerely seek Him. Hebrews 11:6

  2. SPEAK SCRIPTURE

When Jesus was tempted by Satan in the desert, Jesus responded by quoting scripture.

It’s very important that we know what the Bible says – we cannot be fully prepared without that knowledge. We may think we already know all that it says because we read it through once or we learned all of the stories in Sunday school.

But . . . when we study it, meditate on it, and memorize it, it benefits us greatly. Regarding sin, it helps keeps us in check. You could say it helps prevent us from sinning.

There will be times when the Holy Spirit will bring one or more verses to mind, and it will be exactly what we need to hear in that moment.

We will also be able to pray prayers that align with God’s word, which is also crucial. Many of us have said a prayer, then later thought God didn’t answer it. Turns out it was answered, just not with the answer we were hoping for!

And . . . one of the things I love about reading the Bible is that you can read a verse that you are familiar with, but it suddenly speaks to you in a whole new way! The word of God is alive and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (see Hebrews 4:12).

Other times, you will be able to respond to others who question you about your faith. Also, very importantly, you will be able to defeat Satan’s attempts to deceive you, just like Jesus did!

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. 2 Timothy 3:16-17

I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You. Psalm 119:11

Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do. Joshua 1:8

  3. BE HUMBLE: We must come to God in humility.

We must be humble and value others above ourselves. Scripture says that wisdom comes with humility and God will lift us up if we are humble.

Who is wise and understanding among you? Let them show it by their good life, by deeds done in the humility that comes from wisdom. James 3:13

For the Lord takes delight in His people; He crowns the humble with victory. Psalm 149:4

  4. CONFESS & FORGIVE: Admit sins and forgive others so prayers won’t be hindered.

We need to come before God with a pure heart. If we are stubborn about owning up to our sins, we will be filled with anxiety.

It’s just not possible to experience God’s best if we are holding onto sins that haven’t been acknowledged.

Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results. James 5:16

You will never succeed in life if you try to hide your sins. Confess them and give them up; then God will show mercy to you. Proverbs 28:13

But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too. Mark 11:25

  5. BE FILLED: Be infused with the Holy Spirit.

We should continually ask to be filled with the Holy Spirit. He is always there to help and teach us.

Don’t be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 5:18

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own. 1 Corinthians 6:19

But the Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in My name, He will teach you all things. John 14:26

  6. DECLARE: Take hold of God’s promises.

He made so many powerful promises, and there is power in claiming them! Here is a list of just some of those promises.

*To strengthen, help, and uphold us
*To never leave or forsake us
*To instruct and teach us the way we should go
*To give us rest for our souls
    *To fight for us
*To work all things for our good
    *To answer our prayers
    *To take care of us
    *To save/protect us
*To give us freedom from sin’s power
*That nothing can separate us from His love
    *To give us eternal life

  7. BE BOLD IN PRAYER & IN LOVE: Fearlessly step into the power God has given you access to.

Pray fervently with conviction and love without reservation.

The end of the world is coming soon. Therefore, be earnest and disciplined in your prayers. 1 Peter 4:7

If I had the gift of prophecy, and if I understood all of God’s secret plans and possessed all knowledge, and if I had such faith that I could move mountains, but didn’t love others, I would be nothing. 1 Corinthians 13:2

All-Powerful Father,

I praise You for Your love that never fails!

Thank You for always being there to fight for me,
