Eyes That See

Storms come, but you know they cannot last.
However destructive they may seem, they always pass.

Lightning flashes across your sky with threats of harm,
And you seek refuge from the ravaging storm.

You try to hush the fears that are left unspoken
And wonder why the comfortable pace of life had to be broken.

Just as new freshness comes after the earth has been drenched in rain,
Our lives, like the world, would be a desert if the storms never came.

It’s said those dark clouds are lined with silver,
And the one who sent them also will deliver.

So when our lives for a time are bathed in tears,
He comes softly to us because He hears.

And knowing when the time is right,
He reveals to us the glorious sight.

As surprising as the brave little crocus blooming in the snow,
As radiant as the shimmering springtime rainbow.

That it was not the clouds at all that were silver-lined,
But my eyes were filled with dust so that I had become blind.

So He lovingly let those precious storms blow,
And in my life the tears did flow.

And when my eyes, by tears, were thoroughly washed,
My Lord reached out with His healing touch.

He gave not the silver that within the storm cloud lies,
But He gave me the gift of brand new eyes.

Eyes that see the whole world anew,
Eyes that see what many cannot view.

Because only eyes that He has touched,
Only eyes that tears have washed

Are eyes that see
From the heart.
