5 Versions of Communion Prayers, Bible Verses included
The Last Supper
On the night when Jesus was handed over to be killed, He ate a final meal with His disciples, known as The Last Supper.
In 1 Corinthians Chapter 11, we read: He took bread and gave thanks for it. Then He broke the bread and said, “This is my body; it is for you. Do this to remember Me.”
In the same way, after they ate, Jesus took the cup. He said, “This cup is the new agreement that is sealed with the blood of My death. When you drink this, do it to remember Me.”
This is the reason we commune with God – it’s a sacred time to remember Jesus and recognize what He went through for us on the cross.
The bread symbolizes His body that was broken, and the wine symbolizes His blood that was poured out for us.
A Sacred Time of Remembrance
This time is a personal, beautiful time between us and our Savior, Jesus Christ. It is beneficial to take a moment to examine our hearts and minds before we partake of Holy Communion (also known as The Lord’s Supper or the Eucharist).
It honors God when we give thought to: What Jesus suffered for us, search our hearts for any sins that we need to repent of, and take joy in knowing that we have been rescued – our sins are forgiven, we belong to God, and we have the incredible gift of eternal life!
What Are We Celebrating?
When we partake of communion, we are proclaiming that Jesus died for us, rose from the dead, and that He will come again! We wait in confident expectation for His return.
We aren’t just remembering what has been done for us, we are remembering forward – living on the foundation of God’s history with our eyes fixed on His glorious future.
Below are five versions of Communion Prayers for you to pray by yourself or with your brothers and sisters in Christ. Be blessed!
Holy Communion Prayers
- Merciful Father,
Your Son, Jesus Christ, died for us while we were still sinners.
This is how You showed Your great love for us!
Jesus said to take and eat the bread, that it was His body.
And He said to drink from the cup, that it was His blood of the covenant,
Poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins.
We do this now in remembrance of You.
Thank You that the blood of Jesus purifies us from all sin.
In His Holy Name we pray,
Amen
But He was wounded for the wrong we did; He was crushed for the evil we did. The punishment, which made us well, was given to Him, and we are healed because of His wounds. Isaiah 53:5 - Holy Messiah,
May Your name be praised for the grace You have shown!
Let us each one of us examine ourselves before
We take and eat this bread and drink from this cup.
As we partake, we proclaim the death of Jesus until He comes again,
For He is the Lamb who takes away the sin of the world.
Because of what He did at the cross, we have the gift of eternal life.
May Your Name be blessed forever and ever.
Amen
But God showed His great love for us by sending Christ to die for us while we were still sinners. Romans 5:8 - Righteous Lord,
You are good to all, and Your mercy is over all You have made.
Compassionate and kind, Your love is never-ending.
Your Son, Jesus, suffered once for sins to bring us to You.
He is the bread of life; whoever comes to Him will not hunger;
And whoever believes in Him shall never thirst.
May Your grace, love, and fellowship be with us all
As we praise You and lift Your Name up on high.
Amen
This means that every time you eat this bread and drink from this cup you proclaim the Lord’s death until He comes. 1 Corinthians 11:26 - Everlasting King,
As we break bread together and bless the cup,
We remember the great offering You made for us all.
Jesus Christ, our Passover lamb, was sacrificed.
Your Precious Son came down from heaven to give life to the world.
The bread that He gave was His flesh.
Because of what He did, we can have fellowship with You.
Our hearts are full of thanksgiving as we praise You for this.
May Your kingdom come and Your will be done.
Amen
For Christ died for sins once and for all, a good man on behalf of sinners, in order to lead you to God. He was put to death physically, but made alive spiritually. 1 Peter 3:18 - Almighty God,
You are mighty and worthy of all glory, honor, and praise.
Your holy Son, Jesus, was pierced for our transgressions,
He was crushed for our iniquities;
The punishment that brought us peace was on Him,
And by His wounds we are healed.
Rescuing us from the bondage of sin,
He is our source of hope, The One who delivers us.
We are one body, for we all partake of the one bread.
There are no words to express how grateful we are.
We love You.
Amen
