Our Father in Irish: The Lord's Prayer

Here are the beautiful Irish Gaelic (or Gaeilge) words to The Lord’s Prayer. This prayer is derived from two portions of scripture, which are included after Our Father in Irish.

Ár nAthair atá ar neamh,

Our Father, Who art in heaven,

Naofa d’ainm.

Hallowed be Thy name.

Go dtiocfaidh do ríocht,

May Your kingdom come,

Go ndéanfar do thoil ar domhan,

May Your will be done on earth,

Mar atá ar neamh.

As in heaven.

Tabhair dúinn inniu ár n-arán laethúil

Give us this day our daily bread

Agus maith dúinn ár bhfiacha,

And forgive us our debts,

Mar a mhaithimid dár bhféichiúnaithe.

As we forgive our debtors.

Agus ná lig dúinn a bheith cathaithe,

And do not let us be tempted,

Ach saor sinn ón olc.

But free us from evil.

Áiméan.

Amen.

Words to The Lord’s Prayer (Our Father) from Matthew Chapter 6, Verses 9-13

In this manner, therefore, pray:

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us this day our daily bread.

And forgive us our debts,

As we forgive our debtors.

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.

For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever.

Amen.

Words to The Lord’s Prayer (Our Father) from Luke Chapter 11, Verses 2-4

So He said to them, “When you pray, say:

Our Father in heaven,

Hallowed be Your name.

Your kingdom come.

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven.

Give us day by day our daily bread.

And forgive us our sins,

For we also forgive everyone who is indebted to us.

And do not lead us into temptation,

But deliver us from the evil one.”
