5 Versions of Prayer to Diminish Strongholds, along with Scriptures
Introduction
The devil is constantly fighting to get control of our minds. We are in a battle of spiritual warfare every single day, whether we’re aware of it or not.
These battles can come from several areas: our own flesh, the world, and the devil. A significant part of each battle takes place in our minds.
Our Thoughts and Spiritual Strongholds
Our thoughts have a huge impact on every area of our lives – the way we live, our habits, and the decisions we make. Proverbs 23:7 says, “As a man thinks in his heart, so he is.”
It’s very important that we check to see if the way we think, the ideas we have, and the beliefs we have line up with God’s Word.
Paul, the Apostle, spoke about how God has given us what we need to deal with ideas that do not agree with The Bible. Verses 3 and 4 from 2 Corinthians say that we use God’s powerful weapons instead of worldly weapons to fight and demolish strongholds.
Verse 5 says that we bring down every barrier that is raised against the knowledge of God; we take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ. Many of the thoughts we have are the result of the devil’s lies (John 8:44 calls the devil the father of lies).
We may believe lies about others, ourselves, and God. This gives the devil a stronghold on what we do, the way we behave, and our routines. The more firm our belief in a lie, the greater the stronghold is.
It is vitally important that we take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ, just as it says in 2 Corinthians 10:5. It’s a guarantee that we are going to have sinful thoughts, thoughts that should be rejected because they don’t agree with God’s Word.
These are the ones that need to be taken captive. If the thoughts aren’t taken captive, they can take root and become strongholds.
The Importance of God’s Word
It is extremely important that we know what The Bible, the Sword of the Spirit, says because Luke 4:4 states that we should live by the Word of God. When we are tempted to believe a lie, the best way to respond is with the truth of Scripture, just as Jesus did in the desert when he was tested by the devil.
Our minds must be renewed every day be reading God’s Word. The path to victory is knowing the truth – being aware of what Scripture says so we can discern between God’s truth and Satan’s lies.
We present the truth of Scripture to ourselves, then allow the Holy Spirit to change the way we think, the attitude of our heart, and the way we look at things.
The Solution
The way to fight any spiritual battle is by using the weapons of praying (you can say any of the versions of Prayer to Diminish Strongholds below and/or pray Scripture), worshiping God, and memorizing Scripture.
When we ask God for help and we do what He says, His power pulls down spiritual strongholds. The solution is to depend on God’s power instead of our own.
